Valve released a beta update for the Steam client on the 16th, focusing on improving overall startup speeds. This second round of performance enhancements follows an initial update already applied to the public client, specifically benefiting users on laptops or lower-performance hardware. The patch also resolves a bug that incorrectly triggered service error notifications when restarting the application.
The update addresses several technical issues across different operating systems. In Windows, it fixes a display error where Steam Frame content appeared as installable items and ensures voice chat volume settings persist after disconnecting. For Linux users, the patch resolves crashes occurring during screen transitions in Vulkan-based titles and fixes execution errors for certain non-Steam games.
Valve introduced a new Achievement Sets feature to improve progress tracking. Developers can now group related goals, helping players manage content expansions or DLC additions without losing progress. These sets include permanent completion trophies and are categorized into base sets and expansion content, with time-limited tasks stored separately to prevent negative impacts on overall completion rates.
The revamped achievement interface allows users to view statistics, filter data, and compare progress with up to three friends. Additionally, the 'Perfect Game' label has been renamed to 'Completed' to reflect set achievements. Other improvements include better family sharing comparisons and clearer indicators for set support within the store library.
