Key information

Activision has officially acknowledged that the 2025 release of Call of Duty Black Ops 7 failed to meet expectations. Chief Marketing Officer Tyler Bahl admitted in an interview with The Game Business that the studio is not satisfied with every aspect of the title, noting that the company is actively listening to negative feedback from fans and critics regarding the game's quality.

A primary point of contention for players was the campaign mode, which many felt suffered a decline in quality compared to previous entries in the series. Furthermore, Bahl recognized that releasing two consecutive Black Ops titles did not resonate well with the community, as players expressed a strong desire for fresher experiences and greater variety between sub-series.

In response to these criticisms, Activision and Infinity Ward are shifting their focus toward the upcoming Modern Warfare 4. The developers aim to return the franchise to a grounded military shooter concept, emphasizing authentic and cinematic gameplay. The studio has also committed to incorporating more varied mission structures to provide players with diverse challenges.

Early access for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 commenced on October 16, 2026, for those who opted for pre-purchase. The title is scheduled to become available to all players on October 23, 2026.
