Key information

Sunny Lab has released The Witch’s Bakery, a cozy adventure game where players control a heart witch named Lunne. After moving to Paris, Lunne opens a magical bakery alongside her cat-like companion, Orio. The game draws significant inspiration from Studio Ghibli, even featuring an opening song composed by Cécile Corbel, who previously worked on The Secret World of Arrietty.

Gameplay involves a daily cycle of preparing dough and using elemental magic to bake goods for customers. Beyond standard shopkeeping, Lunne uses her abilities to enter the hearts of customers to resolve their regrets. These sequences function as mini-mazes or puzzles, requiring players to navigate obstacles like waves of sadness or fiery anger to heal emotional burdens.

The narrative features deeper challenges, such as the Heart Palace of an accountant named Estelle. This area introduces more complex puzzles involving arrangeable cubes and stealth sections where players must avoid a monster known as a Torment. Polygon notes that while the game is cute, it effectively explores heavy emotions that can be difficult to face directly.

Outside the bakery, players can explore 2D side-scrolling environments in Paris, build friendships, and engage in social activities like attending plays or dining at cafes. The Witch’s Bakery is currently available for purchase on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
