Key information
Bloober Team, the developer behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, has expressed a strong desire to continue producing physical versions of its titles for as long as possible. CEO Piotr Babieno emphasized that physical media fosters an essential emotional connection between players and studios, which could be lost in a purely digital landscape.
Babieno acknowledged that digital distribution is more profitable and convenient for the industry. However, he remains committed to physical releases, noting that he and executive director Tymon Smektala are both avid collectors who view physical items as a core component of the gaming experience.
The studio's focus is shifting toward sensory engagement beyond just visual and auditory fidelity. This philosophy is being applied to their upcoming Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive title, Onyx: The Dark Group, which aims to incorporate a tactile element to the horror genre.
While the Silent Hill 2 remake launched with physical disc support in 2024, future releases face potential hurdles. Sony is expected to end support for PlayStation discs in 2028, and the status of the in-development Silent Hill 1 remake remains uncertain as it currently lacks a release date.
