Microsoft recently published a full-time job opening for an Xbox Games Supply Strategist based in Redmond. The role, which appeared on October 14, focuses on coordinating the launch of physical Xbox titles across all platforms, including managing global supply planning, inventory, and retail sales.
The position involves overseeing the distribution of physical games, though the official listing notably omits any specific mention of discs. This development arrives amid contrasting industry trends, as Sony previously announced plans to cease disc production for new PlayStation titles starting in January 2028.
Microsoft's strategy remains ambiguous. While the company previously explored a Disc-to-Digital program and surveyed Insiders regarding physical installation methods, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stated in August that she intends to offer players a choice between physical and digital formats. However, she stopped short of confirming future hardware specifications.
Industry observers caution that the job description does not guarantee a disc drive for the upcoming Project Helix console. The phrase regarding support across all platforms might simply refer to Xbox-published software released on Nintendo or PlayStation hardware, leaving the future of physical media on next-gen Xbox systems unconfirmed.
