Leaker Kepler_L2 recently claimed that the combined cost of RAM and NAND storage for the upcoming PlayStation 6 exceeds $680. This figure emerged during a discussion on NeoGAF regarding potential console pricing and Sony's willingness to subsidize hardware costs.
The same insider previously suggested in June that the total bill of materials for the console has risen to nearly $1,000. This represents a significant increase from an earlier estimate of approximately $760, though the leaker provided no specific breakdown of how these costs were calculated.
Sony Interactive Entertainment executive Hideaki Nishino stated in June that the company does not intend to sell hardware at significant losses. This stance complicates expectations for the console's retail price, especially as manufacturing remains impacted by component shortages linked to AI datacenters and geopolitical factors.
Market expectations suggest the PS6 may not arrive until 2028 at the earliest. The console is widely expected to abandon disc support in favor of an all-digital model, with Sony likely emphasizing subscription services and cross-generational titles moving forward.
