The Frozen Trail update for Arc Raiders introduces two new raid-style activities, the Frigate and the Fallen Emperor, which provide a deeper loot chase for players. These additions allow users to upgrade outposts and workbenches to craft specialized weaponry, such as guns that fire incendiary grenades or explosive bullets.
The Frigate functions as a chaotic, large-scale battle against waves of robots and giant turrets, while the Fallen Emperor offers a more individual experience focused on platforming and randomized puzzle-solving. Both activities are designed to reward exploration and cooperation, with loot containers scattered throughout to incentivize players beyond simply reaching the final objective.
PC Gamer reviewer Morgan Park praises the variety and cooperative demands of these endgame challenges, comparing them favorably to dungeons in Destiny 2. However, the reviewer notes that the update contains bugs, specifically citing a broken reward pass. Additionally, the author expresses frustration with being ambushed by other players during extractions, suggesting that a dedicated PvE-only mode would better support these cooperative events.
Beyond the raids, the update includes a new craftable grappling hook that improves traversal compared to the existing Snap Hook. The expansion also adds a new map, personal outposts, and various gun upgrades, signaling a positive shift in the game's direction as developers at Embark continue to build out the endgame experience.
