Joe Ziegler, formerly the director of Riot's Valorant, assumed leadership of Bungie's extraction shooter Marathon in March 2024. He stepped into the role following the dismissal of Christopher Barret to help guide the project's direction before eventually departing the studio.

Upon joining the Marathon team, Ziegler encountered a project with disparate internal visions. He noted that while some areas had clear goals, there were significant disagreements across the studio. His primary objective was to unify these conflicting ideas into a cohesive vision for the game.

Ziegler describes Bungie as an egoless company that balances the pressure of its legacy with a willingness to incorporate new perspectives. Despite his professional background, he maintains a deep personal interest in gaming, logging 3,437.5 hours in Path of Exile and keeping Kingdom Hearts installed as a permanent fixture on his PC.

Currently, Ziegler is working on an unrevealed project. He continues to engage with various titles, including Elden Ring and Star Wars: Galactic Racer, while reflecting on his extensive history with games like World of Warcraft, where he accumulated over three years of in-game time.
