Electronic Arts has announced a new wave of layoffs affecting approximately 400 employees, which represents about 3% of its total workforce. According to Bloomberg, this restructuring includes the closure of the veteran RPG studio BioWare.

The company stated that it is making deliberate decisions to allocate talent and investments toward areas with the greatest growth potential. Consequently, the new Mass Effect title, which was in early development at BioWare, has been cancelled.

BioWare, founded in 1995 and acquired by EA in 2007, faced challenges with recent projects like Mass Effect: Andromeda, Anthem, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which struggled to meet sales and audience expectations. EA will now prioritize sports divisions, Apex Legends, and action titles like Star Wars Jedi and Iron Man.

Additionally, EA is cancelling a Sims project codenamed Project Lotus to focus on Project Evergreen. The company also plans to reduce the team size for the upcoming skate game while continuing its development.
