A 3D browser-based simulation game titled Fab24hr has gained significant traction in Taiwan. The title allows players to experience the daily responsibilities of a semiconductor factory worker through an isometric interface. Available in English, Japanese, and Chinese, the game has been described by some local industry workers as a stressful experience, with some users comparing the simulation to a horror game or a prison environment.
The game features two primary modes. In the main story, players guide a hearing-aid chip through 12 chapters, managing equipment failures, production emergencies, and process anomalies. This mode includes three potential endings based on player decisions. Alternatively, the 'A day in the fab' mode tasks players with specific roles, such as a Process Engineer, where they must address immediate technical issues like broken tools using clues provided during shift handovers.
While the game includes explanations for technical terminology to assist those without industry experience, the simulation's realism has drawn mixed reactions. Testing indicates the browser-based software runs smoothly, yet the high-pressure scenarios depicted in the gameplay contribute to a sense of anxiety that some players find unsettling rather than relaxing.
