Nvidia has released a new DLSS 5 Neural Rendering model, which modders have successfully extracted from NBA 2K27 to test on unsupported titles. Early comparisons indicate that this updated model can deliver substantial performance improvements, with some reports citing gains of up to 90% in games like The Witcher 3 compared to previous iterations.
To enhance efficiency within the constraints of consumer GPU VRAM, Nvidia optimized the AI model by reducing its size by 24%. According to the company, this adjustment allows the new model to utilize 20% less VRAM at 4K resolution while processing neural rendering workloads up to 2x faster than the older version.
The latest DLL file includes two distinct presets: Preset A, which retains the older model, and Preset B, which features the newer, more efficient architecture. This dual-preset structure has simplified the process for modders to conduct direct performance comparisons between the two versions.
While Nvidia intends to bring DLSS 5 to RTX 40-series hardware, official support for older cards remains unconfirmed. However, the modding community has utilized tools like OptiScaler and RenoDX to inject the technology into unsupported games and extend compatibility to RTX 20-series and 30-series GPUs.
