Blizzard is preparing for the launch of World of Warcraft Forever, offering players a choice between PvE, PvP, and RP realms. Senior Game Designer Josh Greenfield and Lead Game Designer Tim Jones emphasize that players should choose their realm carefully, as the game's commitment to balance means character transfers between these rule sets will not be facilitated after launch.

The development team aims to foster organic, free-form PvP encounters in the open world. Jones expressed a desire to see players compete over limited resources and even attack opposing capital cities. To maintain this, the team intends to avoid overly rigid systems, preferring a light touch that encourages social solutions, such as forming guilds to counter camping or griefing.

Regarding competitive integrity, Greenfield confirmed that Battleground matchmaking will prioritize pitting pre-made groups against other pre-made teams, preventing solo players from facing fully coordinated squads. While the team acknowledges that being camped can be frustrating, they view these "lows" as essential to creating memorable, high-stakes experiences.

Blizzard intends to intervene only if behavior becomes "truly degenerate" or is abused. Ultimately, Jones and Greenfield stated their goal is to keep the game's strategies and overall feel as close to the original vanilla experience as possible, while avoiding the need for excessive rules that might stifle the intended social dynamics.
