The retro-focused portal VegBao officially launched a new archive website titled Cartoon Island on October 17. This project aims to preserve the legacy of early internet animation by cataloging over 1,600 Flash-based works from Taiwan and South Korea.
The collection features iconic titles that defined the 2000s digital landscape. Notable Taiwanese entries include A-Gui, Wu Long Yuan, and Hospital Feng Yun, while the Korean selection highlights popular characters such as Mashimaro, Pucca, and A-Sue.
These animations faced widespread accessibility issues following the industry-wide transition from Flash to HTML5 technology. The situation became critical after Adobe officially ceased all support and updates for the Flash Player software on December 31, 2020.
Before the launch of Cartoon Island, many of these historical digital assets were only available through fragmented, scattered backups across various websites. This new platform serves as a centralized hub for viewers to revisit these classic internet trends.
