Epic Games has announced the development of EAC Linux v2, a new version of its Easy Anti-Cheat software designed for Linux. The company plans to conduct a pilot test of this technology within Fortnite to gather data and refine the system based on real-world performance.

The new iteration aims to provide security levels comparable to Windows by utilizing existing Linux security features. Unlike Windows implementations, EAC Linux v2 does not require a kernel driver, though it does mandate specific requirements such as TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and Kernel Lockdown Integrity Mode.

These security requirements have faced backlash from some developers and users due to their restrictive nature. Epic Games maintains that these standards build upon existing work by distribution maintainers and notes that increased adoption by distributions will reduce the need for manual user configuration.

While Epic Games is collaborating with Valve to support Steam hardware, no specific release date for the Linux version of Fortnite has been provided. The company stated that full support depends on a sufficient number of distribution maintainers meeting the established security requirements.
