Konami Digital Entertainment president Hideki Hayakawa stated that he does not anticipate generative AI will significantly alter the video game market. According to the Konami Group Integrated Report for the fiscal year ending March 2026, Hayakawa argues that entry barriers were already reduced by user-generated content and generic game engines.

Hayakawa emphasized that human creators remain the most vital component for developing innovative and entertaining titles. While he acknowledged that AI could potentially improve production efficiency, he maintained that the core of game development relies on people rather than automated systems.

The executive described the collaboration between diverse individuals as a chemical reaction necessary for generating new gameplay concepts. Unlike some industry peers who prioritize AI-driven NPCs or broad AI integration, Konami focuses on helping staff learn new technologies while carefully evaluating associated risks.

Despite his skepticism regarding market disruption, Hayakawa does not reject the technology entirely. He views technological shifts as opportunities, suggesting that Konami intends to utilize AI as a supportive tool for its developers rather than a replacement for human talent.
