Konami Digital Entertainment president Hideki Hayakawa has expressed a perspective on generative AI that contrasts with broader industry trends. In the company's latest integrated report, Hayakawa stated that he does not anticipate AI will cause a significant shift in game development, noting that entry barriers have already been reduced by existing game engines and user-generated content.
Hayakawa emphasized that human creators remain the most critical element in crafting innovative and entertaining titles. He argued that the unique chemical reaction resulting from collaboration between developers with diverse backgrounds is not easily replicated by automated systems, even if AI tools might offer some improvements in production efficiency.
Despite this stance, the company intends to maintain support for its staff regarding new technological advancements. Hayakawa explained that Konami provides systematic guidance to help creators understand emerging technologies, evaluate potential risks, and implement them safely within their development processes.
