Nintendo currently maintains strict control over its brand image, but the company previously licensed bizarre products during the late 80s and early 90s. These items, now sought by collectors, contrast sharply with the careful management of Mario's image in modern online and licensed goods.

One notable rarity is a Mario-themed kitchen knife, which was released alongside a matching cutting board. While some collectors initially doubted its existence, evidence confirms it reached the market, with the cutting board occasionally appearing on eBay for over 100 euros.

Another peculiar item is a sticker featuring Princess Peach protected by a cross from a Hammer Brother. This product was distributed through Nagatanien soup packets in Japan, a common marketing practice at the time. Collectors can currently acquire the full set for under 50 euros.

Finally, the 1995 Mario Quiz Cards, produced with Ediciones Atlas, feature surreal imagery. These cards cover diverse topics like history and politics, pairing Mario characters with unexpected illustrations, such as Luigi depicted alongside references to Hitler or Mario reading the Bible.
