Key information
More than two decades after the original 2004 release on PS2, GameCube, and Xbox, Shrek 2 is returning with a remastered version. The title was inadvertently revealed on October 16 when a dedicated page appeared on the Microsoft Store before being removed.
Developed by Aspyr, the remaster is expected to be officially announced on October 20 during the ID@XBOX Showcase. The leaked description highlights technical enhancements including 4K resolution, improved textures, a refreshed interface, and updated cinematic scenes. Additionally, the game will feature a photo mode and a cheat mode.
The gameplay retains the action-adventure focus of the original, allowing players to switch between characters to utilize unique abilities for combat, boss encounters, and environmental puzzles. A significant addition is the support for up to four players, enabling cooperative play through local, online, or hybrid multiplayer sessions.
While the game is confirmed for XBOX Series X|S, specific pricing, a release date, and additional platform availability remain unannounced. The project serves as a companion to the franchise as fans await the theatrical release of Shrek 5.
