Valve has launched a beta test for Steam Achievement Sets, a new feature designed to organize game achievements into distinct collections. This initiative addresses concerns that adding new content like DLC or expansions can inadvertently disrupt the completion status of players who have already finished a title.
Developers can now categorize achievements into specific groups, such as single-player or class-based sets, each featuring its own progress bar. Completing a set grants a trophy on the user's profile, and Valve notes that completion status remains preserved even if new achievements are added to an existing set later.
The system distinguishes between Base Game sets, shown in blue, and DLC sets, displayed in purple. DLC achievements are excluded from overall game progress until the player gains access to that content. Additionally, developers can archive sets or individual achievements, which prevents them from blocking completion for users who did not unlock them during limited-time events.
The update includes an overhauled achievements page with improved search filters and friend comparison tools. The Perfect Games tab has been renamed to Completed, now reflecting games with finished achievement sets. The beta is currently live, with titles like Portal 2 and Team Fortress 2 already utilizing the new tools.
