Archaeologists have identified a remarkably preserved Paleolithic site within La Garma cave in Cantabria. The location remained sealed for 16,800 years following a rockfall caused by the end of the last glacial period, effectively creating a time capsule that was rediscovered in 1995.

The site features a small hut constructed by hunter-gatherers, utilizing nearby stones and stalagmites to support a structure made of wood and animal skins. A central hearth served as the focal point for daily activities, including tool manufacturing and the processing of animal hides.

Researchers from the University of Cantabria have cataloged 4,614 objects throughout the cave. These artifacts include flint tools, spear points, and harpoons, alongside animal remains such as deer, horses, and bison, which provide evidence of the inhabitants' diet.

Among the findings is a unique pendant crafted from a perforated aurochs bone, featuring engravings of the animal and a human face. This discovery is considered one of the best-preserved Paleolithic dwellings globally, offering significant insight into prehistoric life.
