Producer and director Takumi Isobe recently discussed the development of CRYMELIGHT, a new roguelite action title from FuRyu. While sharing thematic elements with previous titles like CRYSTAR and CRYMACHINA, such as girls facing suffering and shedding tears, CRYMELIGHT is an independent work without direct story connections to its predecessors.

The game utilizes 2D graphics to preserve the delicate expressions and charm of the character designs, which Isobe felt were best captured outside of 3D models. The visual direction emphasizes a balance between cute aesthetics and unsettling, grim undertones, reflecting the characters' hidden pasts and personal sins.

Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the narrative focuses on a girl named Alice exploring a mysterious world while confronting her own memories and guilt. Isobe explains that the roguelite genre was chosen specifically to mirror the game's central theme of repeating time, allowing players to uncover the truth of Wonderland through repeated cycles.

To balance the repetitive nature of the genre with a deep, story-driven experience, the developers implemented features like scene skipping with summary logs. Isobe notes that the difficulty is currently being adjusted to ensure that players who are less experienced with action games can still enjoy the narrative progression.
