Key information
Microsoft has released a system update for Windows 11 designed to significantly boost performance. This optimization effort aims to provide a smoother and more responsive experience for users on both desktop PCs and laptops, particularly those operating with limited memory specifications.
The company claims the operating system is now up to 20% more responsive. This improvement affects core navigation tasks, including opening the Start menu, managing files in File Explorer, utilizing Windows Search, and running daily applications like Microsoft Edge and Microsoft 365.
The update introduces smarter memory management, allowing Windows to keep up to 2GB of active data directly in the RAM instead of offloading it to slower secondary storage or SSDs. Additionally, Microsoft has disabled the automatic background preloading of the Widgets feature, which frees up over 200MB of RAM.
These changes facilitate smoother transitions between applications by reducing stuttering and lag. These efficiency gains are particularly beneficial for users with 8GB of RAM or less, helping older and newer hardware feel more agile during daily usage.
