Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will avoid direct references to the COVID-19 pandemic and the political rise of Donald Trump. These specific real-world events are excluded from the upcoming title to maintain a sense of timelessness within the game's satirical world.

Studio head Rob Nelson explained that the long development cycle necessitates a careful approach to satire. By avoiding specific memes or political issues that age quickly, the developers aim to focus on broader human foibles that remain relatable over time rather than content that feels dated.

While the game avoids direct depictions of these events, Rockstar may still include oblique references to the rise of mainstream conspiracy theories. Nelson noted that the team intentionally avoids contemporary slang to ensure the experience does not feel restricted to a single moment in history.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Despite the focus on timeless satire, previous trailers have incorporated viral clips and meme-inspired content, such as references to the Florida Joker.
