Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final installment of the trilogy, will be the most challenging entry to date. Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the game will feature a redesigned difficulty structure, allowing players to access the Hard mode from the very beginning of their first playthrough, departing from the progression requirements seen in Remake and Rebirth.

The combat philosophy has shifted to accommodate the series' evolving tactical depth. Rather than relying on traditional item restrictions, the developers have implemented more aggressive enemy artificial intelligence designed to counter specific player team compositions. Players must now master complex systems, including ATB rotations, synergy skills, and the new FITS mechanic, to survive increasingly demanding encounters.

Despite the increased difficulty, the game will retain a Dynamic Mode similar to that found in Rebirth. This option ensures that battles remain consistently challenging throughout the experience without imposing the strict item bans associated with the higher difficulty settings, providing an alternative for players seeking a balanced but rigorous combat experience.

Revelation will also feature an extensive end-game, encouraging organic exploration of the world. Players can engage with legendary optional bosses and high-level challenges designed for characters reaching level 99. These encounters, which include iconic threats and specialized combat simulations, require players to utilize hyper-specialized team strategies to overcome the game's most punishing mechanics.
