Psychic Software has announced The Lich Wars, a new gothic RPG that expands the universe established in The Necromancer's Tale. While the previous title earned a 91% positive rating on Steam, this prequel explores the history of forbidden sorcery and death within that same setting.
The narrative follows a musketeer over a 30-year period during two wars against the undead. Players navigate a world where dark magic is common but poorly understood, and where character memories are unreliable, as different individuals recall the same events in conflicting ways.
The game functions as a 3D interactive book containing over 300,000 words. Inspired by traditional tabletop RPGs, it features a character development system based on nine physical, social, and intellectual statistics. These attributes are essential for resolving conflicts and navigating the story's non-linear path.
Combat encounters, including naval battles and large-scale conflicts, are presented narratively. Outcomes are determined by player actions, character statistics, and randomized critical attack tables. While no release date is currently set, the project aims to satisfy fans of the developer's previous work.
