Former Blizzard developer Jeff Kaplan is currently leading the studio Kintsugiyama, where he is developing an FPS action multiplayer survival game titled The Legend of California. Kaplan noted in a recent interview that he prefers to avoid the spotlight, explaining that his previous public-facing role was primarily to support his former team and project.
Transitioning to independent development has provided Kaplan with a sense of freedom, though he acknowledges the fiscal challenges of operating without the backing of a major corporation. He emphasized that he is now entirely disconnected from the Overwatch franchise, stating that the current development team and player base own the title's future while he focuses on his new venture.
Regarding the progress of The Legend of California, Kaplan reported that recent testing was successful. While players identified issues with the game's ladders, Kaplan expressed optimism, noting that testers did not raise concerns about the game's core aesthetics or gameplay loop, suggesting that the project is in a strong position.
The development team plans to host a livestream to showcase the latest build of the game and discuss future plans. This event is scheduled for Saturday, October 17th, at 1:00 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on both Twitch and YouTube.
