The survival crafting title Stranded Deep is currently available to play for free on Steam. This limited-time offer for the Pacific Ocean-themed adventure concludes on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. ET.
Players take on the role of a plane-crash survivor tasked with managing hunger, thirst, and health while avoiding sunstroke. The gameplay involves gathering resources to construct huts and crafting tools like axes and spearguns to hunt local wildlife, including giant crabs and fish. Unlike many titles in the genre, the game features a definitive conclusion.
User reception remains mixed; while the game holds a Mostly Positive rating on Steam with 74% positive reviews, some users report technical issues, specifically noting that local co-op functionality is broken. Critics previously gave the console versions a mediocre Metacritic score of 65 upon their 2020 launch.
Looking ahead, developer Beam Team Games recently announced a sequel, Stranded Deep 2. Moving away from tropical islands, this follow-up will feature a desert wasteland setting centered on an endless river world. It is scheduled to enter Early Access on Steam in 2027.
