Key information
The browser-based title GeoGuessr is undergoing a significant genre shift this October. The developers are introducing a new roguelike survival-horror experience titled HorrorGuessr, which maintains the core mechanic of identifying Google Street View locations while adding a high-stakes twist.
In this version, players must identify locations while being pursued by a monster, imposing strict time constraints on every guess. To aid survival, the game introduces 100 unique items and power-ups, including candy corn earplugs for protection against jump scares and a Garlic Pendant to repel enemies.
The experience is designed to be challenging, requiring players to pinpoint locations within approximately 30 seconds at the start. Players must manage limited load-outs, though specific items can provide leeway for incorrect answers. Boss encounters also feature unique mechanics, such as freezing players or altering the game world.
As a roguelike, death is an expected part of the gameplay loop. Players are encouraged to learn from each run to progress further. The title is currently available to play for free.
