Key information

Electronic Arts has officially halted development on a mobile-first multiplayer Sims project, previously identified as Project Rene and later Project Lotus. The company decided to shelve this title after observing that players remain heavily invested in The Sims 4, leading to a strategic pivot in their development priorities.

In place of the mobile project, EA is now prioritizing a new title currently codenamed Project Evergreen. While official details remain scarce, the project is widely speculated to be a successor to The Sims 4 rather than a traditional fifth installment. Industry observers describe this upcoming release as a potential Sims 4 2.0, aiming to evolve the existing franchise foundation.

According to reports from Sims Community, the project is aiming for a gold master status by September 2027, with a projected launch in fall 2027. The title is confirmed for PC and is expected to feature optimizations for portable handheld devices like the Steam Deck. Further information may be revealed at The Game Awards or during the first half of 2027.

This shift follows earlier indications from the development team regarding a new single-player entry for PC and console. With The Sims 4 having launched in 2014, fans have waited 12 years for a new mainline experience. Moving toward a fresh build could help the series move past the technical bloat accumulated over a decade of expansions.
