Jagex has officially canceled the Reignited character type for RuneScape. The decision follows significant pushback from veteran players who felt the project did not align with the needs of the existing community.
The studio acknowledged that the initiative missed the mark. Jagex emphasized that while they aim to grow the game for new and returning players, they will not pursue development at the expense of their current playerbase.
On December 2nd, the developer will shift focus to the adventure guide UI and the remastering of early game levels. Additionally, the studio will provide 10 days of free subscription benefits to new characters and those who have not held a subscription since June 2nd.
Despite this change, the broader 2026-2027 roadmap remains on schedule. Fans have responded with surprise and relief, noting that avoiding a potential schism within the community is a positive outcome for the MMORPG.
