Electronic Arts has officially paused development on a mobile-first multiplayer title previously identified as Project Rene and later Project Lotus. This decision reflects a strategic pivot as the publisher prioritizes a new project currently codenamed Project Evergreen.

Project Evergreen is widely speculated to function as a successor to The Sims 4, described by some as a 2.0 iteration rather than a traditional fifth installment. While official details remain scarce, the developer previously indicated that a significant portion of its team is dedicated to the next evolution of the franchise.

According to reports from Sims Community, the project is aiming for a gold status deadline in September 2027, pointing toward a potential launch in the fall of that year. The title is slated for PC release with expected optimizations for portable handheld devices like the Steam Deck.

This shift arrives twelve years after the original 2014 release of The Sims 4. By moving away from the existing game's accumulated content bloat, the developer may provide a fresh foundation for the series, which fans have long anticipated.
