Despite the closure of BioWare, Amazon MGM Studios is actively developing a television series based on the Mass Effect franchise. Insiders at Prime Video confirmed that the project remains in progress with the original creative team still attached.
The production features showrunner Doug Jung and writer Daniel Casey. The team also includes Karim Zreik, Ari Arad, and Mike Gamble. Development officially began at Prime Video in 2024, following earlier rumors that surfaced in 2021.
The narrative will not revisit Commander Shepard’s origin story, opting instead to take place after the original game trilogy. Daniel Casey previously addressed rumors regarding potential rewrites, clarifying that the project is not being altered to specifically target non-gaming audiences.
While the series previously targeted a Q4 2026 production start, it currently lacks an official release date. Prime Video aims to replicate the success of its Fallout adaptation with this new sci-fi project.
