Key information

Developer Jagex has officially canceled Runescape Reignited less than two weeks after its announcement at Runefest 2026. The project was intended to offer a fresh start with a separate economy for players, but the studio decided to scrap the initiative after listening to community concerns.

Associate Creative Director Ryan Philpott explained that the proposal created a significant divide among the player base. Existing players feared that the new economy would siphon away potential newcomers and leave current accounts behind, effectively devaluing years of progress and dedication to the live game.

Philpott stated that the studio aimed to avoid repeating past mistakes, specifically referencing the long-term negative impact of previous combat changes. He acknowledged that the announcement overshadowed other positive updates, noting that the goal is to grow the game without compromising the experience for the existing community.

Despite the cancellation, Jagex is proceeding with other planned content, including a ten-day free trial from December 2 to December 12, 2026. New players and those without membership since June 2, 2026, can access modern member content. Additionally, plugin support is scheduled to launch on October 19.
