Minisforum has officially announced the S5, a 5-bay all-flash Agent NAS designed for quiet, high-speed storage. The device is powered by an Intel Core 3 304 processor featuring 5 cores and a 4.3 GHz maximum clock speed. It supports five M.2 NVMe SSDs, offering up to 40 TB of storage capacity.
The S5 utilizes a fanless passive cooling system with heat pipes and fins, eliminating mechanical noise from both fans and traditional hard drives. According to company laboratory testing at 25°C, the unit sustains approximately 15 W of CPU power under stress, balancing performance with energy efficiency.
The system integrates an edge-cloud collaborative AI architecture, utilizing a dedicated NPU that provides 15 TOPS of on-device computing power. This setup allows a local AI agent to function as a private digital employee, enabling 24/7 automated data processing and task flows even when the user's PC is powered off.
Connectivity options include one 10GbE port, one 2.5GbE port, Wi-Fi, and dual USB4 ports reaching 40 Gbps. The S5 is currently available in two configurations: a base model priced at $599 and a 20 TB version priced at $3,759, with shipping timelines varying by model.
