FIFA and the Saudi Esports Federation officially postponed the 2026 FIFAe Finals on October 15, just one day before the competition was scheduled to commence at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah. The event, which was set to run from October 16–25, currently lacks a replacement date or venue.
The tournament was slated to feature three distinct competitions: console eFootball, mobile eFootball, and Rocket League. Qualification had involved over 120 nations, with the final field intended to include 12 national teams for each eFootball category and 16 teams for Rocket League.
Prior to the postponement, Japan’s football association withdrew on October 10, citing safety and security concerns. Brazil’s football confederation subsequently cancelled its participation, pointing to regional tensions and risks regarding airspace and airports. Organisers cited an assessment of regional developments affecting logistics, though they explicitly stated the decision did not involve security.
This delay contributes to broader uncertainty within the 2026 esports calendar, following the relocation of the Esports World Cup to Paris and the postponement of the Esports Nations Cup to November 2027. FIFA has not clarified if qualification results will remain valid, how incurred costs will be managed, or if the event will eventually return to Jeddah.
