Sega and Creative Assembly have officially withdrawn the Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition from sale. The original 2011 version of the game has been reinstated on storefronts following significant player backlash regarding the newer release.

The Complete Edition, which launched on October 13 for $40, faced intense criticism for performance issues, legacy bugs, and a clunky interface. Players specifically highlighted visual distortions in character artwork, such as merged helmet textures and extra fingers, which many suspected were the result of AI upscaling.

According to GameSpot, over 81% of Steam reviewers advised against purchasing the Complete Edition prior to its removal. While Sega is currently investigating these concerns with its development partner, the company has not confirmed or addressed the specific allegations regarding the use of AI in the artwork.

The withdrawal of the title highlights ongoing industry scrutiny regarding Sega's use of generative AI assets. While the Complete Edition is no longer available, the original game remains on sale, and Creative Assembly continues to provide support for other titles in the series, such as Total War: Warhammer III.
