Valve has launched a new Steam client beta featuring Achievement Sets, a system designed to better accommodate the extended lifespans of modern titles. This update aims to prevent new content from disrupting the completion status of players who have already finished a game, while allowing for clearer segmentation of progress across different modes or expansions.

The system categorizes achievements into distinct groups, such as base game content in blue and DLC in purple. DLC achievements will not impact overall game progress until the player gains access to that content. Developers can further organize these into specific categories, providing a more granular view of mastery across various game segments.

Seasonal Achievements allow developers to archive specific goals that are no longer obtainable. Valve notes that archived achievements will not appear on the profiles of users who missed them, nor will they hinder progress toward completing a set. This feature is intended for time-limited events or games with modes that may eventually be shut down.

The update includes a redesigned achievements page for tracking progress and comparing stats with friends. The 'Perfect Games' tab is now 'Completed,' allowing users to showcase finished sets on their profiles. Currently, 17 titles support these features, including Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, and Forza Horizon 5, with testing available through the Steam client beta.
