Key information
German game developer Fishlabs has officially announced a round of layoffs affecting its internal development and support departments. The studio confirmed these personnel changes are a direct result of evolving project requirements and the specific needs of its clients.
Management has not disclosed the exact number of staff members impacted by this decision. The company emphasized that the layoffs are not a reflection of individual performance or talent, and they are currently focused on providing support to the departing employees.
Despite these reductions, the studio stated it remains dedicated to its ongoing partner projects. This current restructuring follows a significant downsizing event in 2023, during which 50 roles were eliminated as part of a broader restructuring program at parent company Embracer Group.
Fishlabs, a subsidiary of Plaion, has a history of workforce adjustments, including a 2013 filing for bankruptcy that led to 25 job losses. The studio was originally founded in 2004 by Michael Schade and Christian Lohr, who later departed to establish Rockfish Games.
