Key information

Jagex has officially cancelled RuneScape: Reignited, a proposed game mode for the long-running MMORPG, less than two weeks after its initial reveal at RuneFest.

The mode was designed to attract newcomers by offering fresh characters with a separate economy, preventing interaction with established accounts. This structure aimed to bypass the hyper-inflation currently affecting the game, where items like Bonds cost 141.3m coins on regular servers compared to 11.2m on Old School RuneScape.

Associate creative director Mod Ryan stated the decision followed intense player feedback. Critics argued the mode would fragment the playerbase and deprive the main game of new participants. Furthermore, veterans were frustrated that they could not transition existing characters, forcing them to abandon years of progress to experience the new mode.

Jagex acknowledged the need to avoid past mistakes regarding player input. Despite the cancellation, the developer confirmed other upcoming content, including an Adventure Guide update in December and the reveal of a new MMO, RuneScape 4.
