Director Kazuhiro Takamura, known for the Strike Witches series, has launched his new anime project, High-Power, as part of the October fall season. The series features a production team including veterans like scriptwriter Tatsuhiko Urahata and chief animation director Masato Onoda, utilizing 3D-to-2D rendering techniques.
The story follows 13-year-old Akira Toudou, who lives in Okinawa with his sister Haruka. After a global network collapse, they face an alien threat from the Dia Star. While Haruka uses an Engine weapon left by their father, Akira discovers his own power to manifest mechanical arms. The plot centers on Akira and other girls protecting Earth.
Reviewers note that while the character designs and combat impact are visually appealing, the 3D animation quality from studio SMDE feels inconsistent, with some noticeable latency. Critics also argue the script feels somewhat immature and lacks the depth of the visual presentation, echoing issues seen in the director's previous work, Vividred Operation.
The series features voice performances by Makoto Koichi as Akira and Kaede Hondo as Haruka. While the character designs are praised as some of the season's best, the narrative structure remains typical. The show is currently available for viewers interested in the mecha-girl genre, though its long-term success depends on future developments in its aerial combat and mechanical storytelling.
