Battlefield 6 Season 5 launched this week, introducing new maps, weapons, and vehicles. However, the update was marred by player reports of significantly reduced experience point gains, which Battlefield Studios has since confirmed were unintended.
The developer explained that backend configuration changes caused the issue, which limited players to a maximum of 300 XP per minute. The studio has now reverted these settings and is monitoring telemetry to ensure earn rates return to their previous levels.
Suspicion regarding the XP changes arose because they coincided with the release of the $30 / £25 Ultimate Shortcut Kit. This paid add-on allows players to instantly level up all classes, weapons, and vehicles, leading many to speculate that the XP reduction was a deliberate attempt to encourage sales.
The season launch also faced criticism over a returning exploit and concerns regarding potential generative AI use in the Audacious Breach character skin, which features a misspelled arm patch. Battlefield 6 has previously struggled with inconsistent XP adjustments, including past reversals regarding XP booster mechanics.
