The newly released Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, developed by Evil Empire, has encountered a mixed reception on Steam. Currently, only 66% of nearly 2000 user reviews are positive, marking a colder response compared to the feedback from specialized press.
Players have reported significant technical issues, including black screens that prevent the game from starting, unexpected crashes, and performance drops. Some users noted that the game requires limiting monitors to 60 Hz to function correctly if they possess high refresh rate displays.
Input problems are also prevalent, with reports of involuntary menu and map movements, phantom button presses, and a persistent mouse cursor. Furthermore, the Steam Deck experience is described as suboptimal; despite being classified as playable, users cite performance dips, antialiasing issues, and interface cropping.
Many of these technical flaws were reportedly present in the pre-launch demo but remain unresolved. Neither Konami nor Evil Empire has issued a public statement regarding potential updates to address these community concerns.
