Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently showcased the new generation Roadster at a SpaceX testing facility in Texas. The demonstration featured the vehicle performing aerial maneuvers, including a short jump over other Tesla models and inverted driving, utilizing compressed air thrusters.

The vehicle incorporates a propulsion system developed through a collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX. This system utilizes 10 nozzles and high-pressure air tanks to provide thrust, enabling the two-seater sports car to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in under one second, with a claimed top speed of 230 miles per hour.

Experts remain skeptical regarding the car's flight capabilities. Roger Conner of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum described the display as a jump rather than sustained flight. Additionally, concerns exist regarding the engineering trade-offs between road safety requirements and flight weight constraints, as well as the technical challenges of maintaining stability during vertical takeoff and horizontal transition.

While Musk aims for a 2028 production start, the project has faced significant delays since its initial 2017 announcement. Musk acknowledged that the demonstration was performed without passengers for safety reasons and noted that the Roadster is intended to help reshape Tesla's innovative image rather than drive significant revenue.
