On October 14, 2026, Asmodee Digital officially released the board game Twilight Imperium: Fourth Edition on the online platform Board Game Arena. This long-standing science fiction strategy series, which originated in 1997, supports three to six players with an official playtime of 235 minutes.
Players aim to lead their chosen faction to galactic dominance through fleet construction, planetary conquest, and technological research. The game features a unique strategy card system where selecting a card determines turn order and special abilities. Because these cards offer secondary effects to opponents, players must carefully manage their choices to avoid inadvertently assisting rivals.
Political maneuvering is central to the experience, particularly when a player captures the central planet, Mecatol Rex. This triggers voting on agendas that impact the entire game, requiring players to leverage their influence and negotiation skills. Additionally, the digital version includes map settings that incorporate star system tiles from the Prophecy of Kings expansion.
While the title is available to all users, Board Game Arena imposes restrictions based on membership status. Free members are limited to selecting from the initial six factions, even when joining tables hosted by premium members.
