Key information
SEGA and Creative Assembly have temporarily halted sales of Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition on Steam. This decision follows the game's release on the 14th, after which it received an overwhelmingly negative rating of 15% from approximately 3,000 user reviews by the 16th.
The Complete Edition, a remaster of the 15-year-old original, introduced a 64-bit engine, 4K UI scaling, and new features like quick-deal diplomacy and Japanese voice acting. However, players reported severe technical issues, including frame rate drops on high-end hardware, stability problems, and new bugs affecting unit pathfinding and responsiveness.
Critics also pointed to poor AI performance and the use of AI-generated assets for unit cards and cutscenes, which users described as unnatural. Furthermore, the transition from Steam Workshop to Mod.io disrupted existing mod compatibility, and the removal of the original game from the store prevented users from accessing a more stable version.
The developers acknowledged that the product failed to meet their internal standards and user expectations. While sales are suspended, those who already purchased the Complete Edition retain the ability to play the game. The companies are currently working to resume sales of the original title.
