Valve has introduced a beta version of a new feature called Achievement Sets, designed to overhaul how Steam handles game achievements. This update addresses the common issue where players lose their 100% completion status when developers add new achievements through DLC or seasonal updates.
The system allows developers to organize achievements into custom groups, such as separating single-player from multiplayer content or categorizing by character class. Each set features an individual progress bar, and completing a set grants a trophy on the user's profile. Base game achievements are marked in blue, while DLC-specific achievements are purple and do not impact the overall completion percentage unless the player owns the content.
Additionally, an archive function enables developers to hide time-limited achievements, such as those from seasonal events, for players who missed them. This ensures that expired content no longer prevents users from reaching a 100% completion status. The terminology has also been updated, with the former "All Achievements Unlocked" status now labeled as "Completed."
These features are currently available in the Steam client beta for both players and developers. Titles such as Against the Storm, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Team Fortress 2 are already utilizing these new achievement sets.
