SEGA and Creative Assembly have suspended sales of Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition, which launched on October 13. The publisher announced on October 15 that it is restoring the original version to Steam after the new release received overwhelmingly negative reviews from players.
The Complete Edition was marketed as an update for modern hardware, featuring improved textures, lighting, and new 2.5D campaign cutscenes. However, players reported significant technical issues, including poor performance, bugs, and broken mod support. Additionally, users criticized inconsistent art quality, such as blurred character details and poorly rendered assets, leading to speculation about the use of AI upscaling.
Creative Assembly acknowledged that the release failed to meet player expectations and the company's own quality standards. The developer stated it is working with partners to investigate the root causes of these issues to improve the experience.
While the Complete Edition is no longer available for purchase, those who already bought the title retain access to the game. The original version of Shogun 2 has been restored to the storefront to replace the withdrawn edition.
