Valve has announced a new feature for the Steam client beta called achievement sets. This update allows developers to organize game achievements into independent collections, each featuring its own progress bar and profile badge. Valve notes that if new achievements are added to a set later, existing completion status will be preserved.

The system distinguishes between base game achievements, marked in blue, and DLC-related ones, marked in purple. DLC achievements will not impact global progress until the content is purchased or accessed. Developers can also group achievements by character or separate single-player from multiplayer objectives without requiring a game update.

Additionally, developers can now archive unobtainable achievements, such as those from expired events. While users retain previously unlocked achievements, archived ones will no longer appear as pending objectives, preventing them from hindering game completion status. Valve clarifies that this is a tool for studios rather than an automatic removal process.

The update includes a redesigned achievement page with new filters, global statistics, and friend comparisons. Titles with completed achievement sets can now be displayed in the completionist showcase. Users can access these features by joining the Steam client beta, though implementation depends on individual developers utilizing the new tools.
