Key information

Valve has launched a new Steam Achievement Sets feature in beta, designed to refine how player progress is tracked across games. This update addresses long-standing issues where additional content or seasonal events could negatively impact a player's overall completion percentage.

The system categorizes achievements into distinct groups, such as separating single-player and cooperative modes. For titles with downloadable content, achievements are now color-coded, with base game achievements appearing in blue and DLC-specific ones in purple. Crucially, players who do not own the DLC will no longer have those specific achievements factored into their total completion rate.

Developers can now utilize an achievement archive function to manage time-limited or seasonal goals. If an achievement is archived, it will no longer prevent players from reaching a 100% completion status if they missed the original window. Users who previously unlocked these items will retain visibility of their progress on their profiles.

The beta is currently accessible via the Steam client settings. Several titles, including Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Forza Horizon 5, have already implemented these sets. Developers have also received a new achievement editor to facilitate the creation of these categorized groups.
