Key information
Valve has officially introduced a 64-bit version of the Steam client for Linux within its beta branch. This development marks a significant shift for the platform, which previously relied on a 32-bit architecture, and follows the earlier 2026 announcement of the RT3 client aimed at standardizing the experience across various Linux distributions.
The update introduces a new Achievement Sets feature, enabling developers to organize achievements into specific categories such as base game content or DLC. Additionally, the client now includes a dedicated achievements page designed to simplify how users track their progress within individual titles.
Beyond the architectural transition and achievement management tools, Valve recently deployed a mainline Steam client update. This release focused on performance improvements, specifically delivering faster cold-start times for the application in response to the introduction of the Epic Games Launcher beta.
